Tim Sargeant

Wait, who is Tim Sargeant?

Tim is a Growth Strategy Specialist.

He provides a fresh perspective on your Growth Strategy.

He is curious, creative, big picture oriented and unafraid to break the rules.

Tim works with dynamic senior leaders in consumer facing businesses of all shapes and sizes in Australia and across the world to grow their business and delight their customers.

He has 30 years’ experience designing growth strategies both as a consultant and an in-house strategist.  In consumer goods he has worked in beer, wine and spirits, soft drinks, bakery, dairy, juice, fresh produce, healthcare, petfood, condiments and confectionery – and he has also worked with retail, financial services and telco clients.

He has worked with clients in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and North America.

Tim is the author of the book ‘Have you designed your strategy by choice or by default?  Why change, progress and growth only truly happen when we challenge our thinking and explore alternative options.’

Tim is responsible for every piece of work produced for clients.  There’s no office packed with junior analysts pumping out presentations – he doesn’t outsource or sub-contract.

Tim has a Masters of Engineering from Cambridge University.

He is still stupid enough to get up at 4.30am twice a week to go rowing.

Tim based in Sydney and enjoys cooking, trekking and spending time with his family and dog, Jasper.

Here are some of the happy client’s we’ve worked with:

“Tim has a unique ability to see the Big Picture.  We asked him to help close a short term gap to plan.  He stepped back and helped us identify not only these short term actions but also gave us a fresh view of where we could take the business over the longer term.

Tim has a unique and refreshing approach that just works.  If you’re serious about exploring new opportunities for growth, you can’t go past the Market Maverick.”

Peter McCloughlin, Marketing Director CUB, CEO Coca-Cola Amatil

“We asked Tim to help us shape a clear vision for the business as we progressed our plans to grow our ready meals and ready to cook offer.

Tim helped us map the dynamics of the ready meal market based on insights from more developed markets such as the UK.

Tim’s work not only helped us to shape our range and pricing but also ensured we focus our efforts on proteins with a cost structure that enabled us to do so profitably.

Tim has a deep knowledge of the food and beverage market.  He brings rigour, perspective and intelligence to the problem at hand, and most importantly brings viable alternatives to the strategic debate.”

David Beak, CEO Beak & Johnston

“We rarely get the opportunity to know our business at the depth and detail we may benefit from.  Tim came in and opened our eyes to new possibilities, both quick wins we can implement in the short term, but also a longer term vision that can transform our business.

The insights and ideas Tim bought to the table are not small fry, but ones that will accelerate our top and bottom line growth.”

David Halliday, MD Campari Australia

“Tim is unlike most consultants.  He does not just ‘borrow your watch and tell you the time’ but he truly looks at your business with fresh eyes.

Tim helped us identify what we needed to do to win in the Boating, Camping and Fishing markets in NSW and Victoria which he demonstrated were quite different from those in heartland states of Qld and WA.

The work Tim did has helped us to transform our performance over the past 12 months.”

Anthony Heraghty, MD BCF

“After 10 years of declining sales and share Tim helped us transform our business and turn it around.

He recognised that we had neglected our core brands at the expense of some of our international partner brands.  He helped us reframe our Mission to ’Bottle the Spirit of New Zealand’ and inspired us to reinvent our own brands for the 21st Century including relaunching Steinlager as Steinlager Pure which became the most successful premium beer brand in New Zealand.”

Peter Kean, MD Lion Nathan New Zealand
